The title of the exhibition is a take on Miranda July's film Me and You and Everyone We Know, with a scenario revolving around an intertwined cast of characters. In the same spirit we invited six artists and designers to collaborate with three different companies: Gur, Lavandaria and Lombrello. Out of this dialogue three products have been created: a rug, a silkscreen print and a chair. The exhibition organized on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2022 showcases the result of these conversations.

Similar to the shape of a blank page, this rectangle, made of just the right amount of cotton strips woven on a traditional loom, is an open door. It is an invitation to take a fresh look at a humble technique through the vision of a young woman who is as passionate about her country’s roots as she is about the creative energy that fuels it.

The rug, as a surface of free expression, gives voice to ideas that take us on a unique journey: it can

be a seascape, a composition of enigmatic abstract shapes, a ton-sur-ton textured pattern, or a face-to-face with unusual iconography!

The waste from the local textile industry becomes a medium to reveal the most unexpected ideas of artists, designers, or illustrators from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Through this ancient – but still widely used – skill, Gur proves that craftsmanship has the power to innovate, engage and embrace the future informed by tradition.

From floor to wall, these pieces express imaginative, almost naïve, messages that the weavers have the remarkable ability to translate into physical artifacts. From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Porto, Mexico City or recently Milan, we can often see how this project builds a community and generates its own language crossing borders.
