RUG BY GUR

Hair Over Head

Whether curly, wavy or straight, our hair grows with us — about one centimetre a month! We can cut it, braid it, tie it up in ponytails, shave it off, crimp it, style it with gel or dye it… So, naturally, this exhibition celebrates every kind of hairdo.

Joana Estrela designed a series of hairstyles that GUR brought to life by weaving with recycled fabric strips. The result? Shaggy, hairy creations and an invitation to dream up brand-new looks!

Playing with tradition

Working with designers, artists and illustrators, Célia Esteves of rugs by GUR blends since 2012 Portugal’s traditional weaving heritage with a touch of fun and design.

“The waste from the local textile industry becomes a medium to reveal the most unexpected ideas of artists, designers, or illustrators from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Through this ancient – but still widely used – skill, Gur proves that craftsmanship has the power to innovate, engage and embrace the future informed by tradition.”
